Let's kick off this sunny weekend with a new cocktail recipe, shall we?
Last month Chew Street attended the Bastille Day festivities, hosted by Maille. (pronounced "my"). Most people, (myself included) know Maille for their Dijon mustard. But the company, launched out of a Paris boutique in 1747, offers a variety of gourmet mustards and Parisian treats, including vinegars and cornichons. The Bastille Day event featured Maille's mustard based cocktails. When I heard the words "mustard based cocktail" I was a little confused to be honest. Once I tasted the mustards and tried some of their recipes, I totally got it. For my Maille Cocktail, I used the Maille mustard in a similar way you would use horseradish in a Caesar. Horseradish, like mustard, is a condiment normally associated with food. The reason it works in a Caesar is because you get the kick of the horseradish without feeling like you are drinking horseradish. I used the Maille Mustard Provencale, a light creamy mustard made with red pepper, combined with some of my favourite mixers and a great spiced rum to create a sweet drink a refreshing kick!
