I’ve been so interested in biodynamic wine making since I learned about it earlier this year on an Earth Day themed winery tour.  The food and wine geek in me can’t get enough details about the skill and technique that goes into producing great wine withougt depleting natural resources.  Southbrook is  a biodynamic winery and farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake producing small batch, award winning varietals with care for Mother Earth shown in every step of the wine-making process.  Their on site Linc Farm is home to menagerie of animals inlcuding ewes and lambs.  The marriage of farm and winery lets Southbrook grow great grapes without the use of synthetic fertilizers or chemical pesticides.  The sheep graze on the grass between the vines, and fertilize the vineyard.

Put these eco-friendly gifts from Southbrook and Linc Farm under your tree:

Custom Made Blanket - Available at the Southbrook retail store, these cozy blankets are made from the wool of Linc Farm sheep. The lap ( $110), throw ($150), or queen size blanket ($199)  are made by MacAusland’s in Prince Edward Island, the only maker of this type of blanket in Canada.

Framboise Fruit Wine - Made entirely from Canadian rasberries, this wine is sweet with a refreshing acidity.  It's a great base for a wine cocktail or can be served chilled or drizzled over creamy Christmas desserts. ($17.95, LCBO-341024, 375ml)

Southbrook 2013 Estate Grown Small Lot Cabernet Franc'101' - This wine that took Best of Show at this year's Royal Agricultural Winter Fair earlier this month. This smoky, earthy red will pair well with your holiday roast.
