Summertime in the Financial District means coming above ground from the PATH, getting out of your office, and finding a good patio. So when my friends at Maman invited me to try their French inspired cocktails on their patio I didn't hesitate. I live in the downtown core so Maman's patio in First Canadian Place, perched over King Street is a convenient meeting spot after work and on the weekends too.
Maman's decor and menu channel the flavours and spirit of southern France. I brought my friend Megan along to enjoy the experience with me. We both found favourites on the menu and wanted to share them with you. You can try the recipes at home or enjoy them with a friend on Maman's sunny patio.
Megan loved the Cuban express, a blend of rum, lime, and bitters served in a pineapple. This cocktail is as gorgeous as it is delicious. The pineapple-sized serving is perfect for sharing with 2 to 4 people. Start your weekends early at Maman and try this cocktail on Thursdays, when they include it as part of their cinq a sept happy hour menu for $25!
I loved the Verjus cocktail, a blend of two classic French spirits - Cointreau and brandy. Verjus (vair-ZHOO) is the is mildly acidic pressed juice of unripened grapes. It has a sweet-tart taste that is adds depth to the cocktail.
